Grab a tissue, Sam Smith fans. The singer has just covered Amy Winehouse’s emotional classic ballad, “Love Is A Losing Game.”
The U.K. crooner made an appearance on Annie Mac’s BBC 1 Radio show on Thursday to deliver his beautifully heart-wrenching rendition of the late singer’s heartbreak anthem.
Smith explained his thoughts, nothing that he recently watched the Amy film:
“Sometimes people forget my age, I think. I was 11 years old when [the Amy Winehouse 2003 debut] Frank came out and that album has really shaped me as an artist and my views on music and my relationship with music, lyrically. That lyric ‘Lose Is A Losing Game’ is possibly one of the most relatable lyrics I’ve ever heard.”
This isn’t the first time the singer has lent his vocals on a Winehouse song. Earlier in the year, he covered the Back to Black track “Tears Dry On Their Own” at Lollapalooza.
As for his own original work, Smith will be reissuing the deluxe version of his 2014 debut LP, In the Lonely Hour. It is reportedly going to include the new Winhosue cover and his brand new single, “Drowning Shadows.”
