Kesha is back and better than ever! The songstress performed a melancholic, tender cover of Bob Dylan‘s classic “It Ain’t Me Babe” at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.
Turning down the pace of the folk song, Ben Folds joined the beauty on piano with a violinist. Although her mother Pebe Sebert was active as a songwriter in the country scene, Kesha’s take on the Dylan track is a major step away from the dance and pop music she started her career with.
Kesha’s journey to performing at this year’s Billboard Music Awards hasn’t been easy by a longshot. Because it was her very first televised performance since her legal battle with Sony and Dr. Luke began, TMZ reported that her performance at the show would directly reference the litigation. As a result, her appearance at the award show was cancelled by Dr. Luke’s Sony imprint that Kesha is still legally bound to, known as Kemosabe.
After it was axed, the singer revealed her plans to cover the Bob Dylan classic, and how Ben Folds offered her a way to perform it during a concert in Los Angeles last week. The day right after her first performance of the song, Kemosabe released a statement and announced that her Kesha’s appearance at the Billboard Music Awards had been reinstated.
