A new month has come which means it’s time for BIGBANG to bring out some new singles!
The boys are back with their track “Sober,” which is also accompanied by a very wild music video. They’ve also released a new ballad titled “If You.”
“Sober” touches on a more rock-drive side of the boy band, a genre we don’t usually hear from the quintent who usually go for electronic and hip-hop based sounds. Their latest track shows off lush guitars mixed with banging percussion, instead of their usually snappy pop beat.
It’s reminiscient of “Crooked,” a single of BIGBANG frontman G-Dragon’s Coup D’Etat, Pt.2 EP. It incorprates the same spunky delivery and very high energy rock vibe. Both songs were writte and produced by G-Dragon and the band’s producer Teddy with the rapper T.O.P and producer Choice37 lending their talents to “If You.”
The music video for “Sober” lines up with the lyrics of the track about wanting to be anything but sober after breaking up with a girlfriend/boyfriend. They appear to be going mad in a vibrant world where G-Dragon laughs crazily in a field of beds and Taeyang is stuck in a boxed steam shower in the forest, flipping cars telepathically as baby goats watch on.
Through it all, they go from looking hilariously insane to deliriously happy with the trippy color scheme adding more depth to the intoxicated vibe of the music video. Admist their internal troubles, the guys band together at the end to stumble through a field to chase a golf cart.
In addition to releasing “Sober,” BIGBANG came out with a new ballad titled “If You.” Already named as the band’s most emotional piece to date, it is centered around guitar strums and passionate belts throughout the chorus. The song is quite a contrast in mood to “Sober,” lending itself to one of their most striking pieces.
With the pairs of singles dropped in May and June, BIGBANG has secure the Top 2 of Billboard‘s World Digital Songs chart in each release. If “Sober” and “If You” manage this accomplishment as well, they will beat PSY’s record for K-pop acts, who currently has only owned the Top 2 spots twice with three #1 tracks.
